If crates and wooden boxes are your thing, then I got a place for you!
The Warehouse Restaurant is located in Marina Del Ray, California. It opened in 1969 and things have not changed much since then. The Warehouse Restaurant isn’t a tiki bar but it sure feels like one. A lot of what you see is bric-a-brac nautical items, barrels, netting and shipping crates which none of this would feel out of place in a tiki bar.
The main thing I love about tiki bars is the escapism and The Warehouse Restaurant delivers an experience like no other. It all starts as you walk up to the building. First you follow the wooden walkway towards the entrance of the building.
The outside alone is awesome, I love the miniature pier and there’s a lot to take in. It feels like I’m about to get on a ride at an amusement park!
I know you want to get inside, but take a couple minutes to enjoy the façade, it’s made to look like an old wharf building and it really feels like something out of a movie.
Let’s go inside. Right off the bat you can’t help but notice just how big this place is.
I must have waked around for about ten minutes before I even sat down. Everywhere you look there’s something to see and don’t forget to look up!
This is the view if you get a window table…
This place is massive and so is the seating. Check out these booths, or should I say crates?
I’ve never ate in a wooden shipping crate before, but there’s a first time for everything. I like the privacy of these booths and this would be a great place to bring a date.
Speaking of dates, I had one and it was with a Rum Barrel. It’s officially called The Barrel of Rum and in parenthesis is says “Keep the barrel”, how could I not order one?
The barrel mug is about the size of my fist which isn’t a bad thing because this drink is strong! This little drink packed a punch and I couldn’t finish it but that’s OK, I got to take the mug home!
As I stated at the beginning of this write up, The Warehouse Restaurant isn’t a tiki bar but the experience is almost the same. It’s a full environment that is timeless and if you love tiki, I think you will enjoy The Warehouse Restaurant!
