The first time I visited Duke and Lola’s home bar, it was a cigar lounge and whiskey bar called the Elephant Head Bar. It had a really great vibe, but I thought that as cool as the bar was, it would be so much cooler if it was a tiki bar! Well, they must have read my mind because that’s exactly what they did. In between filming videos for their BossaNova Life channel, they converted their home bar into a secret tiki escape called the Atomic Bikini Grotto! Here is their story …

Tiki Lanes and the Lava Lounge was designed like a home tiki bar that would have been built back in the sixties. You got wood paneling covering the walls, a checkerboard tiled floor … and did I mention a bowling score table?

When most people in Florida think of a tiki bar, they think of a thatched bar that’s bright and open, not a traditional tiki bar that’s dark and mysterious. Cacalito knew what a tiki bar should be and created his own. After traveling the country visiting tiki bars for “research”, he got to work transforming his man cave into Cacalito’s Tiki Grotto!

As a guitar player, I’ve always had a love for the six-stringed instrument that I hung down in front of me. Not only is a guitar an instrument, but it’s also functional art. Danielle Mann is a tiki mug maker from Brisbane Australia and her work is truly incredible!

The name of her company is Black Lagoon Designs and she pulls influences from old school tiki bars, mid-century and the female form.

Her plan for the future is world domination! I think it’s safe to say that she already conquered the tiki scene in Australia. Watch out USA, you’re next!
