Most tiki conventions usually last four days.
The Seattle Sunset Tiki Cruise only lasts four hours and I love it!
This was On the Hiyu’s second Seattle Sunset Tiki Cruise and this was just as much fun as the first! For four hours, you get to go on a boat, watch a couple bands, drink some tiki drinks, mingle with fellow tikiphiles and enjoy the Puget Sound’s beauty as you cruise around Lake Union and Lake Washington.
The first Tiki Cruise was during the middle of summer and the weather was perfect but this cruise was in October and if you live in the Pacific Northwest, you know fall means…rain. We lucked out! The weather was perfect. No clouds in the sky and all you needed was a jacket to keep warm. We all lined up and boarded at the south end of Lake Union…
Once on the boat, you could get something to eat…
Paseo was serving Cuban sandwiches which is a perfect thing to eat before drinking tiki drinks. Upstairs in The Pau Hana Lounge, Sierra from Hale Pele (Portland) was pouring cocktails one after another…
If you’ve been to Hale Pele in Portland, you know how good her drinks are!
I love the fact that On the Hiyu has its own tiki bar!
Once everyone was aboard, we departed and it was about time for this evening’s entertainment to begin. First band up, The Delstroyers…
As soon as The Delstroyers starting strumming their surf rock…
The audience started getting down! Look at this crowd!
It was really cool the watch The Delstroyers play as the sun set behind them…
We headed north toward the U-District and made our way through Portage Bay…
Then The Boss Martians hit the stage, Wow! These guys rock HARD!
The band flew through one great surf tune after another throwing in a Cramps tune or a Sonics cover here and there and the crowd loved it!
It was standing room only for The Boss Martians!
Once The Boss Martins were finished their set, I knew that the Seattle Sunset Tiki Cruise would be over soon and just like last time, I didn’t want it to end! As they say in the entertainment business, leave them wanting more. What I really like about the Seattle Sunset Tiki Cruise is that you only get four hours but it’s just enough time to enjoy an evening of tiki and spend true quality time with your tiki ohana. Next tiki cruise will be next spring. I can’t wait and I’ll be first in line to do it all over again!
I’d like to thank Travis Bay for his pictures used for this post.
