It’s funny how a tiki bar can turn a town into a destination city …
I have to say that Ridgefield New Jersey is not a place I had any reason to go to, until I heard about Chan’s Dragon Inn …
As you can tell from the name, Chan’s Dragon Inn is not just a tiki bar, but a Chinese tiki bar. Chan’s opened up back in 1962. I have a feeling the décor hasn’t changed much over the years and it gives the place an old school tiki vibe that I really dig. There are some really great new tiki bars out there, but nothing compares to a tiki bar that has been around for a long time. Chan’s is one of those places.
From the outside, Chan’s doesn’t look like much.
It’s kind of old and dusty looking.
But when you walk through the door, the first thing you see is a waterfall made up of giant clamshells …
Head to the right if you want to drink at the bar …
Head to the left and you’ll walk into the front dining area …
Walk around the clamshell waterfall to enter into Chan’s amazing dinning room!
I love this room!
An outrigger hangs from the ceiling.
Various tikis are scattered throughout …
And check out this row of booths covered in bamboo …
The drinks at Chan’s Dragon Inn are surprisingly delicious!
The Pina Colada was tasty and well balanced …
The Navy Grog was very good as well! It’s definitely not the traditional recipe, but the drink was great regardless and I’d come back just to get another …
I know there are tons of things to see and do in New York City, but if you’re looking for a great tiki experience, you’ve got to make your way out to Ridgefield, NJ, to visit Chan’s Dragon Inn. I know I will!
