There’s surf music and then there’s rock music, but Friday’s entertainment at Tiki Kon was surf music that ROCKS!
When it comes to surf music, the common complaint is that the music starts to sound the same after a while since there’s no vocalist. Seeing a surf band live can get boringwithout enough variety, but not tonight! Each band had a unique style and spin on the surf genre. The ballroom was packed and ready to rock.
The first band to hit the stage was King Ghidora …
Right off the bat, check out the masks the band was wearing!
Creepy and cool at the same time, but I believe the imagery the band was going for is space surf. The band rocked hard and I have to say that I’m a little jealous of the guitarist’s Mosrite guitar!
And now for something completely different, Don And The Quixotes …
These guys have style. Check out the lead singer, He a cross between Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy and a lounge singer, and I love it!
These guys put on a great show and I loved the energy they had on stage. And off …
The last band of the night was The Insect Surfers.
Right off the bat, I noticed that behind the bass was Tikiyaki Orhestra’s own Jonpaul Balak!
The Insect Surfers have been around since 1979, and they powered out some old school surf rock!
And with that, the first day of Tiki Kon came to a close. Tons of activities happened today but gang, we are just getting started! Coming up next is day two. Stay tuned …
I’d like to thank Dieter Weber for his pictures used for this post!
